Bulgaria plans to add 2.3GW of solar energy by 2030

According to the draft “Sustainable Energy Development Strategy to 2030” published on the website of the National Parliament, Bulgaria aims to reach 2,645 MW of new solar system kits renewable energy power generation capacity within this decade by 2050.

The newly added installed capacity includes approximately 2.3 GW of solar and wind power projects.

In addition, the strategy also takes into account the newly added nuclear power capacity, the feasibility of interconnecting and upgrading with neighboring countries’ natural gas pipelines, and the sustainability and substitution of coal-fired power after 2030.

At present, Bulgaria’s total installed capacity is 12.6 GW, of which non-hydro renewable energy accounts for 2.3 GW, lignite and hard coal power generation accounts for 4.5 GW, hydropower accounts for 3.2 GW, nuclear power accounts for 2 GW, and natural gas accounts for 600 MW. .

However, due to the lack of incentives in the past seven years, the development of clean energy such as solar energy in Bulgaria is not ideal, and only 53 GW of solar installed capacity has been added.
