Kazakhstan promotes renewable energy development

--

Kazakhstan Energy Minister Nogaev said at the department expansion meeting that Kazakhstan’s renewable energy solar kit price power generation will exceed 3 billion kilowatt-hours in 2020, an increase of 25% over the previous year. In 2019, Kazakhstan’s renewable energy generation was 2.4 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 77.8% over the previous year and accounting for 2.3% of the country’s total power generation.

Kazakhstan has a rich renewable energy resource base such as solar energy, wind energy, and hydropower. In order to promote the development of renewable energy, the local government has issued a series of favorable policies to attract domestic and foreign investors.

In October 2018, Kazakhstan hosted the first round of large-scale renewable energy bidding projects, with a total bid volume of 170MW. In 2019, 21 renewable energy projects were put into operation with a total investment of US $ 613 million. In January 2019, the largest photovoltaic power plant project in Central Asia-the 100 MW photovoltaic power plant project in Saran, Karaganda, Kazakhstan was officially put into operation. The project is equipped with 307,000 advanced solar battery modules that can prevent snow and rain. Power generation reached 147 million kWh. In 2020, Kazakhstan plans to pass the Supplementary Act on Supporting the Use of Renewable Energy and Electricity Law, which aims to promote the installation of installed capacity, determine the ladder price standard, create favorable conditions for the development of renewable energy, and bring sustainable growth momentum to the photovoltaic industry.
